Chapter 633

The Bear Fights King Spider (Part1)

Published: 16 October 2023

When I returned to the village, I found the spider that has fallen near the entrance looking miserable.

"It's being eaten." (Yuna)

Cannibalism.

"They're lucky. If it wasn't for the spider's corpse, the villagers might have been eaten." (Deborane)

Since there was such a danger, I had been using my detection skills to confirm the location of the King Spider ever since it fled into the village.

But so far, no reactions that appeared to be from the King Spider had come close to humans. The reason why it seemed so was because the detection skill's reaction is like that of a spider, so there was no distinction. I've said it many times before, but I want it to differentiate when the strengths are different.

"Then I'll fight King Spider." (Yuna)

"You're not going to die easily." (Deborane)

I was surprised by the unexpected words that came out of Deborane's mouth.

"Are you worried?" (Yuna)

"Hmph, if you die, who will fight King Spider? Come fight for me. If you die, take King Spider with you." (Deborane)

Deborane decided how I'll die and headed to the village chief's house with Lanz.

It's hard to tell whether he's worried or not.

I shuddered when I thought that Deborahne said, in tsundere terms, "I'm not worried about you, but please be careful."

Let's stop thinking weird thoughts. I suffered mental damage.

I headed to King Spider with Kumayuru and Kumakyu.

"There it was" (Yuna)

It was eating a spider that has fallen near the house.

I heard a sound.

Ugh, that felt disgusting.

The only saving grace was that I couldn't see the mouth that's eating from the back.

But it's also a chance to defeat it.

I felt sorry for being a surprise attack, but I'd attack it from behind. I didn't have the sense of justice to wait for the spider to finish eating, or to move in front of it and wait for it to notice before attacking. That role should be left to the heroes of justice.

My motto was to defeat when I could.

I gathered magical power in my hands and shot bear wind magic at King Spider who is eating. Just when I thought King Spider had stopped moving, it moved to the side and dodged it.

It even had eyes on its back!?

Some spiders had multiple eyes. This spider had four.

I didn't know if it could see me, sensed my magic, or sensed my presence, but surprise attacks didn't seem to work.

The king spider, which avoided the attack, was watching us while clicking its mouth.

It felt like I was being watched, and I didn't like it.

If it didn't move, the moment I moved my arm to attack again, King Spider would move.

Had it read me?

I shot wind magic, but it's too fast to hit.

The King Spider moved left and right, and its movements were irregular, making it difficult to narrow down the target. It could stop in an instant and changed direction.

It's like dealing with a cockroach. No, it wasn't at my house. I didn't want to tell anyone, I would just deny it.

The King Spider lightly jumped and at the same time released a thread.

And it's not just one place.

Threads came out from all eight of the king spider's legs, as well as from its stomach and mouth.

The threads spread out like a mesh.

There's no escape. If it was just me, I could avoid it, but Kumayuru and Kumakyu were also nearby.

Thoughts of slicing it up with the wind and burning it with fire came to mind, but I quickly dismissed it. There was a house behind the King Spider.

Immediately, I built a wall of dirt to block the spider threads.

That was dangerous.

If I had blocked it with attack magic, I would not only have cut the string, but I would have destroyed the house and set it on fire.

If that happened, the people in the house would be in big trouble.

As I was smiling with relief, the mud wall melted away.

The earthen wall was melting from the places where the spider threads were attached.

It's not just the numb thread.

If a numbing thread or something like this were strung up in the forest, subjugation would be difficult. Even if we cut the thread, it would remain, and if we burn the thread in the forest, the fire might spread to the trees and caused serious trouble.

I thought it would be troublesome to fight in the village, but it might be better than in the forest.

Beyond the wall of melted earth, a king spider clang to the wall of the house, watching me.

Its eyeballs moved slowly.

I thought it was looking at me, but then I realized it was looking at Kumayuru and Kumakyu?

It's stuck to the wall of the house, so just as I was wondering what to do with it, King Spider moved and sent out a thread towards Kumayuru. Kumayuru quickly dodged backwards.

King Spider ignored me and headed towards Kumayuru.

"Kumayuru!" (Yuna)

Kumayuru ran away.

Kumayuru and King Spider began to fight. Kumakyu and I chased after them. Kumayuru shot wind magic from its claws, but it didn't hit. King Spider chased down Kumayuru while spitting out thread.

Kumayuru and King Spider moved around so we couldn't join the fight.

It's completely ignoring me.

Maybe it saw Kumayuru as my weakness?

Or did it start attacking someone weaker than me?

"Kumayuru, Kumakyu, I'll send you back." (Yuna)

If so, just sent them back.

""Kuu~n"" (Kuma-Kuma)

However, Kumayuru and Kumakyu shaked their heads and dislike my suggestion.

It would be a problem if Kumakyu and Kumakyu got tangled in that thread and melted.

"Sorry for this time." (Yuna)

""Kuu~n"" (Kuma-Kuma)

I would send back Kumakyu and Kumakyu, who cried in protest.

When I'm done, I'll pet you and give you some honey, so forgive me.

King Spider's body turned bright red with magical power as its eyebrows disappeared before its eyes.

Even if you didn't understand the words, you could feel that they were angry.

It was me who's angry.

Even I would be angry if my precious Kumayuru and Kumakyu were almost killed.

Then, the battle between me and King Spider began.

King Spider was agile. It used every obstacle in the village to move around.

Also, ran to the back of the house. I used my detection skill to chase after and avoid being attacked by surprise. The King Spider was probably good at hiding, as it often attacked from hidden places.

And when I attacked them, it ran away.

Hit and away.

Attack and run away, attack and run away.

Hit and away, the type of opponent I hate.

If this were in the forest, it would have been an even more difficult opponent to fight than now.

And as the fighting time got longer, the way they hide became more clever.

It was on the roof, if it sneaked around it would stick to the wall, or it would attack from behind objects.

Detection skills could only tell the approximate location. You would be surprised if it sticked to the roof or wall.

Up until now, I'd been able to defeat them with brute force using the power of my bear equipment, so I was not good at opponents that run away.

I didn't like enemies that keep moving a little in games, so maybe I was not good at this type of enemy.

I felt like using magic to blow away the whole house, but I couldn't do that because there were people inside the house.

The moment it stops moving, I tried to cast magic over and over again, but the house gets in the way.

If I shot magic at a difficult time, the King Spider could avoid it, and when I thought it's a chance to attack, there's a house behind King Spider, so I couldn't attack.

Without a house, I would defeat it with super powerful bear magic.

I tried to trap it with earth magic, but it moved so fast that I couldn't catch it. It avoided holes too. Even if it fell, it would come back up right away.

I thought about trapping it with wall magic, but it moved so fast that it escaped before I could close it.

I got irritated.

What made it even more irritating was that it pulled out strings and obstructed my actions.

I inevitably stepped on spider threads several times, but thanks to my bear shoes, I was not harmed.

If it had been normal shoes, if it had been sticky, or if it had been exposed to acid, it might have been a big problem.

It would be a very difficult opponent for an ordinary adventurer to deal with.

However, King Spider also seemed to hate me, making threatening and angry clinks with its mouth and glowing red eyes.

But when I thought about it again, it's strange.

When the King Spider stopped moving or was about to release its magic, there was always a house behind it.

If I used powerful magic, the entire building would be destroyed and the people inside the house would be harmed. If they got crushed under a collapsed house, they could lose their life.

Did it by any chance understood that I couldn't attack the house?

If I used my Detection skill to check, the King Spider was moving around a house where there were people inside.

Again.

As if to prove it, King Spider stopped moving in front of a house where there were people.

If this was true, this spider was highly intelligent.

Monsters were stronger than humans. However, it was said that the reason humans could defeat monsters was because they had intelligence.

They fought by setting traps and forcing it into areas where they had an advantage. But I never thought animals and insects would fight while holding hostages.

This might be a more difficult opponent than I thought.

As I was playing against the King Spider, thinking about how to defeat it, something jumped down from the roof. Spider? Just as I was thinking that, a goblin holding a sword came down from the roof.

"Hey!" (Deborane)

No, it's Goblin King. No, it's Deborane.

Instead of a beautiful girl, a goblin fell from the sky.
