Chapter 431

The Great Operation: Breaking Off the Engagement 5

Published: 13 August 2024

In truth, Loterica wasn't all that angry at the pair.

Perhaps the woman he had an affair with simply fell in love with Lorenz and wanted to marry him at all costs.

Even if the other person had a fiance, if they fell in love with you and broke off the engagement...

As a woman, she didn't mean to blame her for thinking that way.

Well, it's not exactly praiseworthy to challenge a man who was engaged, but if she still fought fair and square, that was also the path of a woman.

As for Lorenz and Loterica's engagement, the affair had nothing to do with it.

It was a matter for Lorenz and Loterica and their families.

So, all that was needed was for the two families to negotiate the dissolution of the engagement and for Loterica to receive some compensation to prove that she had not been at fault.

If only it wasn't that way...

The false accusations, slander and insults levelled against Loterica were a major problem.

However, all of this was Lorenz's doing.

This time, it was Lorenz who unilaterally broke off their engagement with Loterica and showered her with false accusations and slander; it was not his cheating partner who directly lied to him at the time.

So Loterica didn't feel particularly bad about the woman he was having an affair with.

As for Lorenz...

The engagement, a contract between their families, was unilaterally broken off in front of a large crowd, and her reputation was tarnished through false accusations and insults.

This not only damaged Loterica's reputation, but also the reputation of her family.

...But even that didn't make Loterica all that upset.

She was simply sad that all her efforts had been for nothing, that she would never be able to marry again after being criticized in front of so many people, and that she had tarnished her family's reputation.

So, although she didn't care about herself, she was worried that it would have a negative impact on her brother's marriage proposals and that he would be sued for compensation on a false accusation and cause trouble for his family, so she wanted to clear her name of the false accusation.

However, now that this had been managed thanks to her friends in the Society, she no longer cared about Lorenz.

The engagement was arranged between the two families, and Loterica was not particularly in love with Lorenz.

She simply believed that it was natural for her to marry her arranged fiance, and she loved Lorenz from then on, and tried to be a good wife.

Even Loterica, as expected, had no intention of siding with Lorenz after he had committed such an act of betrayal.

Once someone had betrayed someone without hesitation, they would betray someone again without hesitation.

This was only natural, as maybe it's a bad thing or something that should never be done.

So, they'd never have anything to do with someone like that again.

That was the way ordinary people thought.

So Loterica no longer cared about Lorenz and had no intention of getting involved with him again.

...Unless they get involved first.

And Loterica just wasn't that angry at Lorenz, not that she wasn't angry at all.

Also, "I wasn't that angry" ...was in the past tense.

If things had stayed that way, and her honor had been restored, that would have been fine.

She didn't want anything more than that.

However, if they were to get involved again, got in the way of his future life, or turned against her precious friends, then it would be a different story.

If it was just her, she could still bear it.

However, if they become the enemy of her comrades... she would crush them!

Loterica was no longer a helpless baby bird.

And Loterica had some powerful allies.

...There was no way she could lose.

...stare.

Loterica looked at Lorenz with cold eyes.

There was no trace of the timid girl who would do whatever others told her to do anymore.

"Ugh..." (Lorenz)

Lorenz's shoulders slumped and he looked dejected.

It seemed he had finally realized the situation.

Lorenz's lover was no longer beside him.

It seemed that she realized the situation before Lorenz did and retreated.

If you think it's not going to work, don't hesitate to cut your losses immediately.

Her excellent judgment, combined with her impressive ability to protect herself by leaving all of the false accusations and slander against Loterica to Lorenz and not mentioning any specific details to anyone other than Lorenz, earned her the respect and esteem of Mitsuha, Micheline, and the other members of Society.

Because of this, she was not treated with any particular hostility by the members of the Society, and after the heat died down, she resumed her search for a husband as normal. Her crisis management skills, which had enabled her to overcome a difficult situation so brilliantly, were highly praised, and she began to receive marriage proposals from lower-ranking nobles who were on somewhat risky paths, but this was a story for another time.

Mitsuha's Perpective

"Mitsuha-san, you have received letters from noble girls who are not members of Society. They are all almost the same, and there are eight in total..." (Micchan)

When I went to Micchan's house, that was the first thing she said to me as soon as we met.

Well, it looks like she's recovered.

...No, when Micchan remembers after that party, she was enthusiastic and delivering her lines like a stage actress, and her face was bright red with embarrassment...

When she got home, she rolled around on her bed in her room.

Then, after rolling around for a while, she noticed me looking at her and said, "Why are you here?!!" and threw a pillow at me.

No, you were so red that I was worried and so I stayed by your side.

I guessed her head was so saturated with shame that she forgot about it and rolled around...

...But for now, let's talk about the letter!

"What is it about?" (Mitsuha)

"'My engagement has been broken off. Please help me.' That's what it means..." (Micchan)

Huh? That's...

"That's definitely a fake engagement cancellation to get her to join the Society!" (Mitsuha)

"I guess so..." (Micchan)

Micchan, of course, seemed to understand that much.

Micchan was a smart girl, that's for sure.

And naturally, my response was...

"...I don't know though... Rejected! Rejected!!" (Mitsuha)

Author's Note

I will be taking two weeks off for summer vacation, next week and the week after.

In the meantime, I've been writing manuscripts to be updated the week after the holidays and working on publishing the book...

I think I can take a break for a few days, so I'll continue reading other people's Narou novels... (^^;
