Third person view
The teacher and classmates were stunned, not understanding what the two of them were saying or doing.
The guards looked on with wry smiles, thinking that the foreign young lady had started some sort of ritual or play.
As long as it didn't cause any inconvenience to them, they would likely just be patient and watched over the children playing.
It's much better than having to cry.
And without worrying about them, the Sabi-Colé duo proceeded.
At Sabine's signal, Colette began narrating.
"When Princess Sabine was still calling herself a noble, a suspicious terrorist group was infesting Stella Maris Girls' Academy. What is her true identity? In order to find out the secret, Sabine called a licensed special commando from her home country…" (Colette)
Then, Sabine brought the wristwatch-shaped communication device to her mouth and issued a command.
"…Jump, Little Nanoha!" (Sabine)
"Bah!" (Door slammed open sfx)
The next moment, the front door of the classroom was suddenly pulled open.
A girl appeared from there, and something that looked like a slightly strange-looking assault rifle was sticking out.
"I, appear!" (Mitsuha)
Of course, it was Mitsuha, she appeared wearing a camouflage uniform, a bulletproof vest, and a bandolier, and was carrying five more guns in a string sling, slung over her shoulder.
…it looked pretty heavy.
Mitsuha appeared in just a second or two after being called.
In order to prevent anyone from seeing the paranormal phenomenon, she did not appear directly in the classroom, but instead appeared in the hallway and opened the door to enter.
In addition to spare bullets, there were grenades, knives attached to the bandolier, a handgun, and a backup handgun (sub-weapon) attached to her hip holster.
Mitsuha had no talent for throwing grenades, but she overcame this weakness by devising a method of "Transfer to the opponent, gently placing the grenade there, and then returning."
Of course, just to be safe, Mitsuha was not equipped with a fragmentation grenade or an attack grenade, but a stun grenade that deprived the opponent from their freedom of action with sound and flash.
Bas bas bas! (Bullet shot sfx)
Then bullets were fired with a small sound like a toy, and two of the three bullets hit one of the guards.
As there were only children and old women present, the guards were completely off guard, and with their guns still in slings slung over their shoulders, they were not only unable to react to the sudden situation, but also foolishly just stood there motionless.
They're probably not a professional fighter, but just amateurs with a gun…
Of course, even if they reacted and fire back, the bullet would not be fired because Mitsuha had already removed the gunpowder from the bullet in the firing chamber and the first bullet from the magazine by continuous transfer.
If they tried to shoot, the bullet wouldn't come out when they pulled the trigger, and even if they manually eject the casing and tried to fire it again, the bullet still wouldn't come out.
If it took this long, the chance that Mitsuha would be shot back before defeating her opponent was almost zero.
The reason why only two bullets were tampered was because if all the bullets were tampered, when the police investigated later, they would find out that the gun was not loaded with live bullets and was not intended to kill or injure anyone, so the crime might be lightened.
Mitsuha was strict about things like that.
Bus bus bus!
Three more bullets were fired, all of which hit the other lookout, and the two collapsed to the floor before they could make a sound.
No matter how bad Mitsuha was, at such close range, it's unlikely she'd miss.
"Gyaaaaaaaa~!!" (Classmates)
And Sabine's classmates screamed in surprise.
They were elementary school girls. When someone was killed in front of their eyes, it's natural to scream.
But….
"They're not dead. This isn't a gun, it's a less-lethal launcher[1]." (Mitsuha)
Mitsuha tried to reassure the children by saying this, but she did not say that it was less-lethal and would not cause death. It's just that the probability of dying was less.
FN303Mk2[2]. Less-lethal semi-automatic launcher.
A drum magazine with 15 rounds is used. It was called less-lethal because it uses a special resin sabot bullet that shatters when it hits the target.
Apparently, it's called a launcher rather than a rifle, probably because it fires bullets using compressed air (CO2) from an air tank.
The firing sound was a small bang, like a toy gun. No flash or recoil.
Wasn't that only natural, since it shot out with compressed air rather than explosive gunpowder?
"Hey!" (Mitsuha)
Sabi-Colé duo each catched the gun that Mitsuha took off her shoulder and throws.
"Sabine-chan is wild boar. Colette-chan is bird. Eight bullets in the magazine. Hang it on your shoulder and don't use it unless you feel in danger.
The enemy's weapons will be disabled before the battle begins. Bullets, knives, and other items that could be used as weapons and poisonous substances are removed right before the battle. …but if you think there's even the slightest danger, shoot without hesitation. The lives of terrorists are worth less than 1/10,000th of the lives of these two and others. There is a theory that all human lives have the same weight, but… that's a lie!!" (Mitsuha)
"Roger!" (Sabine & Collette)
Sabi-Colé duo replied cheerfully.
Boar refers to the ammunition used to hunt them, commonly known as buckshot.
The one she was using this time contained 9 lead ball pellets.
Bird was a shotgun that is used to shoot birds and contains many smaller lead balls.
…of course, the line she just said was from Inoshikachou[3].
These two guns were shotguns.
A riot gun[4]. One of these was the Riot Shorty, a short-barreled gun for riot control that has a short barrel for easy handling.
You didn't need to aim accurately, just shoot from your hip, and the chance of instantly killing your opponent was a little lower than other types of ammunition.
However, if you used a single-grain slug bullet for big game, they would probably die easily…
She handed those two guns to Sabine and Colette, one each.
If the shot hits before the pattern has fully expanded, it will be extremely powerful.
With Sabi-Colé duo's skills, if they took a suitable stance and fired from the hip, they would be able to hit his target.
There was also little danger from ricocheting bullets. Even if it hit a wall, it didn't bounce much, and even if it hits a rebound pellet, the damage was small because the power was attenuated greatly. As long as it didn't hit something really bad… like the eye..., the chance of serious injury was low.
The single-grain (slug) bullets loaded in Mitsuha's shotguns had a large mass, and since they were exposed lead balls, the bullets would be crushed and deformed greatly if they hit, so they were less effective in terms of physical destruction and movement. Since the energy did not penetrate with the bullet, it had a large stopping power, and was highly effective in preventing enemy attacks.
When it came to fully armored bullets such as full metal jackets used as military rifles, the warhead penetrates the human body, and most of its energy escapes with the warhead, creating a stopping power that prevents the human body from being destroyed or attacked. Not very useful as stopping power.
Why did Mitsuha give Sabine and Colette a shotgun?
It was because she was afraid that if they used only less-lethal bullets, the damage to the enemy would be small depending on where they hit, and it might allow the enemy to get closer to the two of them.
Unlike the previous battles, indoor battles involve extremely close range combat, so if they were unable to stop the enemy even after several shots, they would be allowing the enemy to get closer.
…and the enemy was an adult man, and they were fragile girls. No matter how much the enemy's weapons was sealed, if they let them get close, the enemy could break their neck in an instant.
Their lives could not be entrusted solely to lax weapons such as less-lethal weapons.
It was a "Weapon for those who can afford it" that could only be used when their own safety was ensured.
…but if it's a shotgun.
If the shotgun shell hit the target before the shot pattern was fully open, most of the lead pellets would hit the target.
…it was possible to inject far more energy into the opponent's body than if a single bullet were to simply penetrate the body.
And even if you shot without aiming properly, it was unlikely that all the lead pellets would miss.
It was a weapon that even amateurs with little experience could use effectively, as long as they knew the characteristics of a shotgun.
…did it cause more damage to the opponent than less-lethal bullets?
It's obvious. Idiots who fear for the enemy and endanger their allies should not appear in the field of battle.
If he just died, it's his choice, but if he were to take so many of his allies with him...
Occasionally, people died in battle due to bullets received in the back.
…that's how it is.
Mitsuha was planning on not allowing the two to use shotguns as much as possible.
Aside from Sabine and Colette, it might be a little tough for the sister-sensei and the classmates to see a human body hit at extremely close range before the scattering shot pattern of the bullets had fully opened up.
They might not be able to eat for a while, they might not be able to eat meat, they might wake up every night, they might wake up many times in the middle of the night, they might be traumatized for the rest of their life…
Of course, it's still much better than being killed.
However, this was just a "Backup weapon for emergencies".
That's it.
It's something like, "You idiot, who would shoot? A shotgun is the weapon of last resort!!".
Her favorite, of course, was the other one.
