Chapter 837

The Bear Fights the Giant Monkey (Part 3)

Published: 27 November 2024

The Giant Monkey let go of the sword and stepped back as if to flee.

"Maybe you don't like it cold?" (Yuna)

I wrapped ice around my hands.

Seeing this, the Giant Monkey stepped back.

The situation was the opposite of the last time I fought the Ice Dragon.

When it came to the ice dragon, I had a hard time with the ice.

Even if I attacked the ice dragon with fire, I couldn't do much damage.

As expected, ice was strong against fire.

Above all, as a person from another world where science had advanced and there was a lot of information, I had a stronger ability to imagine things.

There was a limit to what a monkey could imagine as a flame.

"Are you sure you want to put your sword down?" (Yuna)

I asked the Giant Monkey, who tried to distance itself from me.

I grasped the Giant Monkey's sword—formerly Goblin King's sword—in my free left hand.

It's big.

I had used a variety of weapons in games, but I had never used a greatsword.

The reason was that the character was a magic swordsman, so I couldn't carry a greatsword.

So, the main weapons were swords and knives.

I tried swinging my great sword with one hand.

This was something only a bear puppet could do.

"You don't need this weapon?" (Yuna)

I knew we couldn't communicate with words, but it was a smart monkey. I felt like it could understand me with my actions.

The Giant Monkey glared at me, but didn't come near me.

"If you don't want it, I'll take it." (Yuna)

I wouldn't just throw it around.

I put the Goblin King sword away in my Bear Box.

It would be a hassle if it was picked up later and used.

I was not the kind of character in a story who throws a sword or a gun and then regrets it later.

When the Goblin King's sword disappeared, the Giant Monkey looked frustrated.

It seemed angry that its things were taken away.

I would say that sword belonged to Goblin King.

The Giant Monkey let out a loud "Kikikikii" sound.

Then the Red Monkeys, who were on top of the waterfall, came down.

I had killed quite a few of them so their numbers were dwindling.

As I was thinking that, the trees around me started swaying.

The Red Monkeys appeared.

Just how many are there?

I used my detection skill to confirm.

There were a lot of Red Monkeys reactions around me.

And a little distance away, there were three human reactions and both Kumayuru and Kumakyu.

Immediately, I knew who the reactions were.

They were Marne-san and the others.

It seemed that they managed to defeat the several Red Monkeys that had been chasing Marne-san's group.

Well, I thought that with Kumayuru and Kumakyu, that number would be okay.

But did you come back?

I told you to run away.

"Kumayuru, Kumakyu, you'll be punished later."

I told this to Kumayuru and Kumakyu in my head.

I thought I heard the sad voices of Kumayuru and Kumakyu saying "Kyuu~n."

But maybe they came back because they were worried about me.

I was happy, but I also didn't want them to do anything dangerous.

But I felt reassured when I could see the reactions from Marne-san's group.

"If you brought them here, make sure you protect the Marne-san and the others"

I said it in my heart.

If you bring them here, you have to protect them.

Well, either way, once I defeat the Giant Monkey, everything will be over.

The Giant Monkey did not have the Goblin King's sword in hands. It was no threat.

"Kikikikikiki!"

When the Giant Monkey let out a strange scream, the Red Monkeys, who were nearby, attacked.

I dodged the Red Monkeys' attacks and didn't take my eyes off the Giant Monkey even while attacking.

The Giant Monkey would likely take advantage of the opportunity when the Red Monkeys were attacking.

However, contrary to my expectations, the Giant Monkey started walking slowly and stopped in front of the Goblin King's corpse.

Then it started eating the Goblin King.

It's not a pleasant thing to look at.

Magic stones and meat. What's the point of eating it?

As I was thinking this, the inside of the Giant Monkey's body began to glow.

Mana?

Two things appeared to be glowing.

Maybe the magic stone of Giant Monkey and the magic stone of Goblin King?

After eating the Goblin King, the Giant Monkey's arms became thicker and its whole body becomes one size larger.

Super Giant Monkey.

Strengthened!?

Did the Goblin King's magic stone react to eating the Goblin King's flesh?

I didn't know why, but I had a bad feeling about it.

As the Giant Monkey ate the Goblin King's flesh, it looked at me and grinned.

My intuition told me it's bad.

I had to attack immediately.

However, as if to interrupt that, the Red Monkeys attacked.

The Giant Monkey jumped around as if warming up.

Coming! Just as I thought that, the moment the Giant Monkey landed on the ground, it jumped towards me.

One jump.

With just that, the distance between us closed in an instant.

The Giant Monkey's hands were approaching.

I dodged it at the last moment.

If I had let my guard down or been distracted by the Red Monkeys for even a moment, it would have been inevitable.

I turned around while dealing with the Red Monkeys.

As the Giant Monkey landed, it twisted its body and jumped towards me again.

I avoided it.

The Giant Monkey used its powerful legs to attack back and forth multiple times.

Taking advantage of this opportunity, the Red Monkey also attacked.

The Red Monkeys were annoying.

They attacked one after another.

First, I made sure to defeat the Red Monkeys and reduce their numbers.

No matter what, they couldn't spawn infinitely.

"How annoying!" (Yuna)

I fired an ice arrow and lost my balance as I tried to deal with the Red Monkey attacking from the side.

The moment I thought, "Oh no!", the Giant Monkey was already jumping towards me.

Unavoidable.

The moment I thought that, the Giant Monkey grabbed me.

Before I could even try to escape, I was grabbed and thrown away by the force of the grab.

I bounced across the ground like a bouncing ball, then crashed into a tree.

Thanks to the Bear Equipment it didn't hurt, but my eyes were spinning and my head was dizzy.

Perhaps fearing my electricity and ice magic, it quickly threw me away.

I stood up unsteadily.

The Giant Monkey saw me stood up and jumped up and clapped.

It was enjoying the fight.

Although it was angry when the Goblin King's_ sword was taken away, it became mocking when it thought it had the upper hand.

However, it was harder to fight than when it was holding the Goblin King sword.

Having given up the Goblin King sword, it now fought in the original Giant Monkey way.

It made use of the explosive power, speed, and arm strength.

The Goblin King started to seem cute.

I guess it was a mistake to put the Goblin King's sword inside the Bear Box.

I found myself thinking of something stupid, like taking out the Goblin King sword.

Either way, if things turned out to be unfavorable, there's a chance I would throw away the sword.

In that case, I had no choice but to deal with the current situation.

The Giant Monkey seemed to hate electric and ice magic, and avoided my contact.

I knew that electricity and ice would be effective, but the Giant Monkey's movements were too fast, so even if I flew my weapons I couldn't hit it.

...Then the only option is to defeat him in close combat, right?

I held the mithril knife in both hands.

In my right hand I held the black-handled Kumayuru knife, and in my left hand I held a white-handled Kumakyu knife.

I walked slowly towards the Giant Monkey.

The Giant Monkey also walked slowly towards me.

We both gradually started walking faster and then started running.

The Giant Monkey's long arms came hitting me.

Its fist was in flames.

I fought back with my mithril knives.

The Giant Monkey's fist could even withstand a mithril knife.

It's like the flames were strengthening its fist.

Right, left, right, left.

An uppercut-like attack came from below.

It was a brutal attack on a girl.

During my time playing the game, I once fought a player who was a professional boxer.

Of course, there was no such occupation as boxer in the game. The player just self-proclaimed that.

But he had a special weapon in hands and fought like a boxer.

When we first met, I mocked him, saying there was no way he could defeat me with swords or magic.

For long-distance attacks, magic was of course advantageous.

But close combat was different.

He was strong in sword and knife fighting without magic.

I was at the mercy of the boxer's movements, which were a new experience for me, and lost.

If I hadn't had the experience of fighting back then, it would have been inevitable.

I dodged and at the same time swung the Kumayuru knife sideways.

It grazed the Giant Monkey's arm.

By stepping back to avoid the uppercut, the knife was out of reach.

I jumped back and put some distance between us.

The Giant Monkey licked the small cut on the arm.

The blood flowing from the wound stopped.

If I had dodged a little closer, I could have cut off half or a third of its arm.

The Giant Monkey grinned and jumped in.

The distance between me and the Giant Monkey was instantly shortened.

The Giant Monkey's explosive power was troublesome.

But, getting closer also meant getting within my attack range.

I dodged the Giant Monkey's large arms and got close.

Even the Giant Monkey wouldn't be able to dodge at such close range.

The moment I tried to swing my right hand, holding the knife, towards the Giant Monkey's body, I received a blow from the side.

Did I get hit?

I rolled on the ground.

What was attacked me?

I quickly stood up and turned my attention to the Giant Monkey.

Tail?

The Giant Monkey's tail was in front of the Giant Monkey's body, sweeping across the ground.

I was careless.

I never thought it would attack with its tail.

Monkeys were not humans.

I felt like I was fighting a large monster that moved on two legs and used a sword.

A higher-ranked monster than the Goblin King. That was the extent of my understanding.

Monkeys, unlike humans and the Goblin King, had tails.

Even in manga, there was a monkey that attacked with its tail.

It's embarrassing that I, who had played so many games and watched so many anime and manga, had forgotten something like that.

I couldn't call myself an otaku like this. (I didn't intend to call myself an otaku though.)

"Okay. First, I'll cut off your tail." (Yuna)

I pointed my mithril knife at the Giant Monkey and declared.

As soon as I declared that, a wind blew in from nowhere.

"…………roger that"

The battle between the Giant Monkey and me began.

Occasionally, the Red Monkeys would attack.

However, the number of the Red Monkeys was definitely decreasing.

Having consumed the Goblin King's magic stone and body, the Giant Monkey had become even stronger.

Its strength grew stronger and its movements became faster.

But the fact remained that it didn't like ice.

The Giant Monkey dislikes the cold-blooded mithril knife and was fighting while keeping the distance.

Having the Red Monkeys attacked, I then waited for the opportunity to attack.

It's the same old thing.

If you get hit by the same attack multiple times, you'll get used to it.

The Giant Monkey's tail stretched out as it swayed back and forth.

If I knew that its tail was going to attack, there's no need to be scared.

The extended mithril knife cut off the Giant Monkey's tail.

To be precise, I froze the tip of the mithril knife and extended the length of the knife with the ice created by my mana.

The sharpened ice blade cut off the Giant Monkey's tail.

The Giant Monkey got angry and attacked.

The Giant Monkey's arms reached out and tried to grab my bear costume.

If you are attacked multiple times, you will also understand the distance between its arms.

I dodged at the last moment and slashed upward with the cold-blooded Kumayuru knife.

Blood came out of the Giant Monkey's right arm. The blood then froze.

The Giant Monkey attacked with its other arm.

I cut its right arm up and then lowered it, slashing at the Giant Monkey's approaching fist.

But the Giant Monkey's fists didn't stop.

I even dodged that.

The Giant Monkey's fist passed by the side of my head.

I took a step forward and slashed the Giant Monkey's body with the Kumakyu knife in my left hand.

The Giant Monkey's movements never stopped.

A large body loomed forward.

This time I slashed again with the Kumayuru knife in my right hand.

I slashed the Giant Monkey's face.

The Giant Monkey didn't stop.

At that moment, a wind blew, and an arrow pierced the Giant Monkey's eye.

The Giant Monkey stopped moving.

I put mana into the mithril knife.

Then I swung it horizontally towards the Giant Monkey's neck.

Blood spurted from the Giant Monkey's neck.

The Giant Monkey glared at me with the other eye.

But an arrow pierced that eye too.

"It's over now." (Yuna)

To finish it off, I stabbed the mithril knife into its heart.

The Giant Monkey's body was freezing from the inside.

The Giant Monkey gritted its teeth and raised its arms.

The raised arm never came down.

Author's Note

Sorry for the late post.

I was busy with work related to the comic book adaptation and forgot to write the afterword for volume 21.

Please wait a little longer for the release date of volume 21.

The third volume of the comic spin-off is scheduled for release on December 20th.

*I should have had the Goblin King eat the magic stone here. In the plot, I had only decided that the Goblin King would eat the magic stone to power up. I'd like to rewrite it when it becomes a book.

*We apologize if it's difficult to imagine what the Giant Monkey is like.

As the author, I was imagining the Giant Monkey from Dragon Ball when writing this.

It's not that big, but it's about the same size as Goblin King, or maybe a size bigger.

There are no comics or illustrations, so it needs to be written in a more understandable way. It is the author's lack of skill that makes it impossible to express the image of Giant Monkey that the author has in mind through words alone.

Posting will occur every 4 days.

*If I will be taking a break, I will announce it in the postscript, and if I am suddenly unable to post, I will let you know in the activity report or on X (formerly Twitter).
