Chapter 725

Deiga Goes to Crimonia (Part 1)

Published: 5 February 2024

I'm Deiga. I run an inn and a restaurant in the port town of Mileela. My precious daughter Anzu has gone to Crimonia.

"Huh..."

"Anzu will be fine. All the kids from Crimonia were good kids. Even Tilmina-san, who came to say hello, was a nice person. And Anzu seemed to be doing well, too, right?"

"Yes, but not until I see it with my own eyes."

It was not that I doubted the bear lady.

Anzu's letter also said that they were having fun and that the shop was doing well. When she came to the beach, she told me about the shop.

I knew there was no problem.

However, it was natural for parents to be concerned about where they were working.

"What I'm worried about is her arm falling off."

I told her an excuse.

It was not a lie. It was possible that she had forgotten my teachings and was cutting corners just because I couldn't see her.

"The merchant who stayed with us also said that Anzu’s food was delicious, right?"

"But..."

"If you're that interested in Anzu, go see him."

My wife said that.

"There's accommodation, and who's going to cook the food?"

"Your stupid son and I will do that. I've been cooking with you for years. If I don't have enough hands, I'll ask someone I know."

As if to give me a push, I decided to go to Anzu in Crimonia.

When the time had come to settle down at the inn, I went to make a reservation for a shared carriage.

Horse-drawn carriages now traveled between Crimonia and Mileela. One was scheduled to come out every two days.

If you left first thing in the morning, you could arrive at Crimonia in the evening, so the horse-drawn carriage usually left first thing in the morning.

"I'd like to ride a carriage to Crimonia."

"You're going to Crimonia. There's space, so it's okay."

"Then, the fastest one please."

"Okay. Is it okay to stay in Crimonia? You'll arrive in the evening. I don't think it will be a problem if you have someone you know, but I think it will be difficult to find a place to stay after arriving."

That was certainly true.

I couldn't just go to Anzu's and stay the night.

Above all, if I went suddenly, it would cause trouble.

"Therefore, there is also a plan that includes lodging costs along with the carriage fare."

My inn also subscribed to the same system. Several rooms in the inn were reserved for Crimonia's shared carriages.

"However, the fee is paid in advance. Cancellations cannot be made, and the price will not be refunded."

"No problem. Please do."

"I understand. Is it only for one person?"

"Yeah"

The woman at the reception desk quickly processed the inquiry and handed me the paper.

"Then on that day, please bring that paper and come to the carriage. We will leave on time, so please don’t be late."

"Got it"

Every day, I woke up early in the morning and went to work.

I didn't oversleep and be late.

On the day of departure, I left the accommodation to my wife and son and headed to the shared carriage.

Although the sun had not yet risen, several carriages were already prepared.

I approached the carriage and called out to the person managing the carriage.

"Sorry. I'd like to ride the carriage I reserved."

"Yes, can I see your reservation paper?"

I took out the paper.

"Um, what's this number? Please get in that carriage."

"Got it"

I got the paper back and ride the carriage I was told.

In the carriage, there were people who looked like merchants and people who looked like tourists.

Just as the lord of Crimonia said, many people started coming to Mileela.

At first, there were many merchants, but gradually regular tourists started coming.

Many times I saw them enjoying themselves and having conversations while looking out at the ocean, which we were used to seeing.

Although we took the sea for granted, there were some who had never seen it. Some people enjoyed watching the sea all day long.

People who came to Mileela stayed at my inn, bought food at other stores, bought souvenirs, and dropped money into the town.

It used to be a quiet town, but now you could hear happy voices everywhere.

It happened just as the lord said.

Some people said that a quiet town is better, but I thought a lively and fun town is better.

I would be happier if more people stayed there and ate my cooking than at an inn where no one stayed.

Therefore, I was grateful to the Lord of Crimonia.

However, I had no idea that the man the bear lady brought with her was the lord of Crimonia.

I was surprised when I found out later.

Then, as the sun began to rise over the sea, the carriage began to move.

Tourists saw the sunrise and said things like, "Let's come again."

Those words made me happy as I was born and raised in Mileela.

The carriage entered the tunnel that leads to the city of Crimonia, the so-called Bear Tunnel.

There was a bear figurine at the tunnel entrance.

Apparently it was made by the bear lady who saved Mileela.

This tunnel was supposed to have been discovered by accident, but we knew that Lady Bear made it to take Anzu to Crimonia.

She was a girl who did truly unbelievable things.

And, perhaps because it was early in the morning, most of the passengers on board fell asleep.

I thought it would be okay since I was working, but I ended up falling asleep in the monotonously rocking carriage without doing anything.

After passing through a long tunnel, the horses took a short break. Just a light meal, toilet, etc.

After a short rest, the carriage departed for Crimonia.

The carriage arrived at Crimonia without any danger.

Most of the passengers disembarked from the carriage, but those who had paid the carriage rental with accommodation were told to remain on board, and the carriage began to move again.

Then, he gave me a ride to the inn.

With this, you wouldn't have any trouble even if you come to Crimonia for the first time.

It was well thought out.

Then, the person sitting on the coachman's stand asked me to follow him, and he even guided me to the inn.

My inn did the same thing, but when you rode a horse-drawn carriage and came to another town, you realized how valuable it was.

It could be difficult to find and secure accommodation in a new city.

The first meal I had in Crimonia was a meat dish served at an inn.

It was delicious, but they didn't have enough time to prepare it.

If they did it a little more properly, it would be even more delicious.

Then, I would be shown to my room.

It was not much different from my inn.

There was only a bed, a desk, and a chair.

It would be a hassle if I had other things, so I didn't brought any.

It would be easier to clean if there were fewer things in the room.

I slept on the bed.

The food was one thing, but I had to admit that the bed here was more comfortable.

However, it couldn't compete with futon from the Land of Harmoni that I had touched before.

A merchant in Land of Harmoni asked me to buy a futon before, but the price was so high that I couldn't afford it.

As expected, there wasn't enough room to put one in every guest room.

The next day, I thought about where I would stay and thought about staying there, but the room I was staying in was already booked, so I couldn't stay there.

I should have done it yesterday.

Even at my inn, the rooms filled up quickly, but I didn't think about it.

For now, I said a thank you and left the inn.

I strolled around town while heading to Anzu's shop.

There were various shops. This was Crimonia.

Anzu worked in a place like this.

As I was walking around looking at the store, someone called out to me.

"Daga-san"

The person who called out to me was a girl dressed as a bear. There was a bear girl who saved Mileela, the town where I live, and a girl Fina who dug bamboo shoots with me.

When I explained why I was here, she looked stunned.

If I were coming, she wanted me to let her know.

The bear lady offered to guide me to the shop where Anzu worked.

I was taught this at the inn, but Crimonia was spacious so it was helpful.

I asked the two how Anzu had been doing lately, and it seemed certain that they were having fun.

Then we arrived at the shop where Anzu worked.

In front of the store were large bear figurines holding a fish.

The store was bigger and more impressive than I expected. It made me happy to think that Anzu was running a shop here.

Then, I caught a glimpse of people working from the shop window.

What I saw was Seno, who had gone to Crimonia with Anzu.

I hid behind the bear figurine and checked out the store.

At my actions, the bear lady and Fina looked at me with shocked faces.

I made various excuses, but the girls grabbed my hand and led me into the shop.

As soon as I entered the shop, Seno noticed me and called Anzu over.

I gave up and told her that I came to see Anzu.

Anzu was a little angry, but she also looked happy.

We sat down and decided to eat.

I looked around until the food arrived.

There were many customers, and everyone seemed to be eating deliciously.

Just by looking at the faces of the customers, I could see that Anzu's food was well received in the city of Crimonia. That made me happy.

While I was greeting the merchants who were coming to stay at my inn, the food Anzu had made was brought to me.

I checked to see if the flavor had deteriorated.

It's good.

It was made properly. The preparation was done properly.

When the number of customers increased, some cooks cut back on their work.

I taught Anzu not to cut corners no matter how busy she was.

I was glad she was following my teachings.

And while I was in Crimonia, I ended up staying at Anzu's shop.
