Chapter 628

A Certain Adventurer

Published: 13 October 2023

Deborane's Perspective

"Damn, what's that number?" (Deborane)

"Deborane, what should we do?" (Lanz)

It was by chance that I pass near the village.

On our way back from defeating a certain monster, we encountered a man being attacked by a spider. Lanz and I defeated the spider and rescued the man.

Small spiders were cute, but wolf-sized spiders were disgusting.

When I heard the story of the man I rescued, he said that countless spiders have appeared in the village. So, he said he is about to go to a nearby village to ask for help.

I handed the water bottle I was carrying to the man and said, "Quickly, go to the village and ask for help." The man drank the water in one gulp, then he thanked us and ran off.

"Deborahne, what should we do?" (Lanz)

"I'm sure that's the case." (Deborane)

"I agree" (Lanz)

Lanz and I rode our horses in the opposite direction from where the man ran away.

When we arrived at the village, we found spiders moving around in the village.

Some people carried weapons and tried to fight.

That's not brave, that's reckless.

The battle should be left to the professionals.

If you want to cook, be a chef.

If you want to farm, be a farmer.

If you want to do business, be a merchant.

If you want to unite the city, it's the lord.

And if you want to subjugate monsters, be an adventurer.

In other words, it's me!

"Lanz, the villagers are a nuisance, so tell them to go inside the house and hide." (Deborane)

"Understood" (Lanz)

Lanz and I ran around the village and gave instructions to go inside the house.

"It's dangerous, so go inside the house." "Come on!" "Keep quiet and don't make any noise inside the house." "You're in trouble, so hide inside the house!"

When they learned that we were adventurers, they followed my instructions and entered the house.

Meanwhile, a woman ran up to me.

"My husband was late to escape and got caught by a big spider in the field." (Woman)

A woman asked for help.

Even if a spider catched its prey, it did not eat immediately. It had a habit to store them by winding threads.

But if they're hungry, you wouldn't know.

"You'll get paid later." (Woman)

I ran my horse and headed towards the field the woman told me about.

There were two spiders on the field. There was something that appears to be a person whose entire body was wrapped in spider thread, lying there.

"That's it?" (Deborane)

I swang my sword and defeated the spider.

I got off my horse, ran up to the man, and carefully inserted the knife into his face.

The thread was sticky and difficult to break.

However, a man's face emerges from beneath the wrapped thread.

He was breathing. Then, his eyes slowly opened.

"You're alive." (Deborane)

"Ah, what about you?" (Man)

"I'm an adventurer. If you'd like to thank me, I'll take it later." (Deborane)

I tried to cut the thread that the man was tangled in, but spiders gathered around.

There were surprisingly many of them.

I lifted the man wrapped in thread, placed him on the horse's back, and mounted him too.

I ran my horse, ran through the spiders, and headed towards the woman's house from earlier.

"My dear!" (Woman)

"Quickly, hide in the house!" (Deborane)

I took the man off the horse and threw him into the house.

"Thank you very much." (Man)

"If you want to thank me, don't say words, prepare money and wait for me." (Deborane)

I headed out to subjugate the spiders, but there were more of them than I expected.

If we looked outside the village, we would see more spiders entering the village.

"Damn, is it still there?" (Deborane)

As expected, it would be impossible for me and Lanz to handle this number.

The faces of the two adventurers came to mind.

Gil had a large body, just like me.

Rulina supported us with magic.

"Hmph" (Deborane)

It's not like me to think about those who aren't there.

I ran my horse and met up with Lanz.

"Lanz, are you okay?" (Deborane)

"Yes, I'm fine" (Lanz)

"How about the residents of the village?" (Deborane)

"As instructed, the villagers hid inside their homes." (Lanz)

"I see." (Deborane)

It meant they'd made time to hide at home.

"Also, the village chief would like to meet you." (Lanz)

I thought it's necessary to listen to the village chief in order to understand the current situation.

Lanz and I headed to the village chief's house.

I felt bad for the village chief, but I would be in trouble if my horse became food for the spiders, so I asked him to let me enter the house with it.

"Thank you for helping everyone in the village." (Chief)

I just helped some village residents and defeated a few spiders. It's easy for me.

"It's still too early to say thank you." (Deborane)

Although the villagers who are outside were able to escape into the house, there were still spiders inside the village.

Even if we defeat them, they would come back like insects.

"So, is it possible to subjugate the monster? Of course, I will be grateful to you in any way I can." (Chief)

The village chief asked me with a pleading look in his eyes.

I'd like to say that it depends on the reward, but that number was tough for just me and Lanz.

"We can defeat them as one monster, but there are too many of them." (Deborane)

If we looked through the gap in the window, we could see it crawling around.

If Gil and Rulina were here…

Because I became competitive with that bear, the they both left the party.

I thought that adventurers should be strong people.

If an adventurer isn't strong, it's a deadly job.

Ever since I became an adventurer, I'd seen many new adventurers who haven't come back.

So when that bear said that she want to be an adventurer, I thought, don't be silly. Being an adventurer was not something we do for fun. They were fighting for their life.

There were many scars on my body caused by monsters. It's a scar that would never go away. I didn't become an adventurer for the money.

That's why I teached those who become adventurers the rigors of being an adventurer.

However, that Bear's ability was real.

I was defeated easily, and that Bear defeated various monsters and even Black Viper.

The difference in ability between me and her was obvious.

Even though she's dressed like a joker, she's still a hideous bear.

Just remembering it made me angry.

That's why when that bear built a shop, even though Gil and Rulina offered to help, I didn't help because my pride wouldn't allow it.

Gil and Rulina, shocked by my actions, left the party.

"Well then, Deborane-san, what do you want to do?" (Lanz)

Lanz asked.

Even after the they both left the party, Lanz continued to follow me.

Lanz couldn't be allowed to die like that.

"Do you want to run away?" (Lanz)

Lanz asked in a low voice that the village chief couldn't hear.

I looked out through the gap in the window again. A spider was walking around. There were too many spiders.

Even if we said we want to run away, if we were attacked by that many people, it would be impossible to escape.

If the line got tangled in the horse's leg while running away, it's over.

What would we do? Think!

Thanks to the spider's habits, there was no immediate threat to life.

However, it was only a matter of time.

As time passes, a house would appear that it will serve as food for the spider.

There's not enough time and people to fight.

I couldn't find an answer.

"Deborane-san and Lanz-san, please run away. The two of you can leave the village." (Chief)

When I was worried, the village chief started saying things like that.

"No, that's not true. Please go out of the village and call for help. Even if you stay here, you will only serve as bait. In that case, you have a higher chance of being saved if you leave the village while you still have the strength." (Chief)

As the village chief said, it would become difficult to escape as time passes.

However, considering the additional spiders that come from outside the village, the timing might have been missed.

"No, I'll stay." (Deborane)

"Deborane-san!?" (Lanz)

"I helped a man who left the village outside the village. That man must be asking for help. We'll just have to wait for that man to bring a strong adventurer with him." (Deborane)

There weren't many adventurers stronger than me.

"Did you meet Jimmy? Was he okay?" (Chief)

"I saved him from being attacked by a spider." (Deborane)

The village chief was relieved by my words.

The problem was after I got separated with him. I didn't know what would have happened if he had been attacked by a spider again.

If the man was able to get to a nearby village safely, help would come.

The problem was the number, quality, and time that come to help.

No matter how many people they are, if they don't have the ability, you'll just die.

And most of all, they might not have enough time.

If they didn't get here in time, there might be casualties.

While we were talking, the spiders gathered around the house and started spitting webs towards the house.

"Deborane-san" (Lanz)

"It looks like the whole house is wrapped in thread." (Deborane)

It's like they're saving us along with the house.

Lanz looked at the ceiling and walls. I could hear something walking on the roof and crawling on the walls. It sounded disgusting. I wanted to kill them right away. But for now, all I coudl do was stay still.

Then, I didn't know how much time had passed, but I heard a scream from outside the house.

"Deborane-san!" (Lanz)

I didn't know if they were trying to escape or if it was time for the spiders to eat, but the villagers were being attacked.

"Damn it, Lanz. You stay." (Deborane)

"I'll go with you too." (Lanz)

I opened the door, which I had cut the string from beforehand, a little and took a peek at what was going on outside.

There were no spiders nearby.

But the screams raised again.

"Let's go, Lanz!" (Deborane)

"Okay!" (Lanz)

Lanz and I ran.

There were 5 spiders in front of one house.

A man was fighting a spider in front of the door to keep it from entering the house behind him.

However, the man was holding a spear on his hip.

With that attitude, he wouldn't be able to protect what he want to protect.

"Lanz, I will deal with Spider. Once you have secured that man and the residents inside the house, take him to the village chief's house!" (Deborane)

Part of the house had been destroyed. It's dangerous to stay locked up like that.

"Deborane-san, you're alone." (Lanz)

"I'm enough alone. Besides, if there are children in the house, they'll probably run away if I approach." (Deborane)

Lanz looked at me.

"That's right. Deborane-san's face is scary." (Lanz)

"That's where I deny it. There's no other handsome guy like me." (Deborane)

Lanz and I started running towards the house that is being attacked. While swinging my great sword, I lunged at the spider, cut it down, and secured a path for Lanz to pass through.

Lanz ran past me and headed towards the man.

I turned my back on Lanz and the man, and dealed with the remaining spiders.

"Come on!"

I swung the great sword down at the spider.

However, the spider stepped back and dodged it.

It's a disgusting opponent. Eight legs moved at high speed.

At a time like this, if Rulina had been here, she would have stopped it, or predicted where it would run and cast a spell.

If Gil was there, I could leave half of it to him.

Hehe, there's no point in thinking about someone who isn't here.

"Deborane-san. There were two people in the house." (Lanz)

Lanz called out from behind.

I looked behind me, being careful of spiders.

There were three people: husband, wife, and a child.

"I will open the way." (Deborane)

"Okay" (Lanz)

"Hey! Come on! I'm your opponent!" (Deborane)

I put all my strength into my grip on the large sword and was about to run towards the spiders in front of me, when more spiders gathered around me.

"Deborane-san!" (Lanz)

Even if I defeated a few of them here, if the Lanz who run away were chased, it would be over.

Think about it, what should I do?

Phew, that's easy.

In that case, all I had to do was reduce their numbers until Lanz and the others could escape.

"Lanz will wait there. If I tell you to run, run." (Deborane)

I swung my long sword towards the spider.

"Hey!" (Deborane)

I swept the great sword aside.

A large sword pierced the spider's body.

Spat out the thread.

I blocked with a great sword. A thread was tied to the great sword.

I couldn't cut this. Then all I had to do was stab it.

"Come on! Die!" (Deborane)

I thrusted my great sword into the spider.

However, no matter how many times I defeat them, spiders will gather.

They gathered together like insects.

If this continued, the weapon would become useless.

"Deborane-san!" (Lanz)

At the same time as Lanz shouted, wind magic flew out of nowhere and sliced the spider into pieces.

Who was that?

I looked for the person who released the magic.

There was a bear there.

Author's Note

Everyone loves Deborane (Goblin).
In terms of book volumes, it might be the first appearance in about 20 volumes or more.
He's arrogant, but maybe he's an adventurer?
