Chapter 12

Digging an Open-air Bath

Published: 20 April 2025

Once you create a box, you'll want to fill it with things. Is this the saga of a sad person?

"Next time I go to town, I might buy some things. I'm sure they'll have some nice furniture and stuff," I muttered. It was not like I would stay in Great Sea of Trees forever after all.

But at least I worked up a sweat doing the carpentry work. I wanted to wash it off and feel refreshed.

"Slappy, please" (Idhir)

"Squeaeak!" The slime, Slappy, hopped around. One bounce, two bounces... then a huge jump, building up momentum for three bounces! He jumped onto my head at quite a high altitude.

"Bond Summon! ‹Water›!" (Idhir)

"Squeak!" Slappy responded. Water springing from him. Since he was above my head, the water naturally flowed down my entire body.

"It's cold! It feels good!" I felt refreshed. Now that I had washed off the sweat, all I had to do was take off my wet clothes, wring them out, and hang them out to dry.

"......Master, what are you doing?" Colène asked as she looked at this scene with a cold eye. Suddenly I realized.

"I'm sorry. It was insensitive to take off my clothes in front of a woman," I apologized.

"I want to say something not just about that, but about your entire series of actions..." Colène responded.

What? There were other problems?!

"I was sweating so I took a bath. I had Slappy summon the water... it's pure water. If you take a bath with your clothes on, you can do your laundry at the same time, killing two birds with one stone!" I explained.

"That's impossible! You can't do laundry and take a bath at the same time. It will just end up being half done!!" Colène exclaimed.

"Excuse me!?" I was confused.

Did Colène get angry at me!?

"...Excuse me, Master. Your behavior is not very civilized. It is necessary to keep your surroundings clean. To that end, you need to prepare the necessary facilities," Colène explained.

"Is that so...?" I wondered.

"Now that we've finished building the house, we know what to build next. A bath!" Colène added.

"A bath?!" I exclaimed in surprise.

...Well, I knew though. Even though I was a dropout, I was born into a noble family. My family home had at least a bathroom.

"But isn't it a hassle? You have to heat water every time you want to take a bath. It's a waste of firewood, isn't it?" I asked.

I can ask Slappy to provide a lot of water, but I don't know how to prepare a bathtub or anything. I don't know if the things summoned by Bond Summon can be used as materials—

"Don't worry. I have a great idea," Colène said.

Another person with a good idea had appeared...!?

Then Colène started making the bath. First, she dug a hole in the ground, a deep and wide one. The excavation itself was easy once she put on the golem exterior so it was over quickly.

But should you put water in that hole? If you pour it directly into the ground, won't it be absorbed into the soil in an instant? As if she had anticipated me interfering like that, Colène grinned and...

"Don't worry. I've thought of a solution," she said. Once she had dug the hole to her satisfaction, Colène moved on to the next step and picked up a lot of stones. The stones were then placed at the bottom of the excavated hole, almost as if to cover it.

"Then, Slappy, please," Colène asked Slappy.

"Squeaeaeak!"

Slappy, what is that grey, viscous thing that is poured between the laid out stones and squeezed out?

"It's cement," Colène told me instead. "Using Slappy's Composite Bond Summon, we can summon cement. Once cement hardens, it becomes as strong as stone and won't crack even if you hit it, and it won't leak water. We can use this to fill in any gaps and complete our tasteful rock bath!"

Somehow, I was able to take a bath. They dug a hole in the ground and filled it with stones so that water wouldn't leak out!

"Slappy, thanks so much," I thanked him.

"Squea!"

Slappy did a great job. The hole was quite large, but even if Slappy poured water into it until it's full, it would be no problem at all.

...I mean, haven't you all been doing Bond Summon without asking me for a while now?

"The bathtub will be complete once the water in it becomes hot. That will be my work...," saying that, Colène put one hand into the water. "The mana drive built into me is the energy source that powers my reinforced exterior. If I convert that into thermal energy, it’ll be no problem to boil this amount of water."

Soon, the water in the bathtub began to bubble. A tremendous amount of steam rose up and I couldn't see anything in front of me.

"Well, the bath is ready. Please come in," Colène said to me.

"It's boiling right?!" I exclaimed.

If you get into that kind of boiling water you'll boil to death!

"...as for Colène, there is still a discrepancy in perception," I muttered.

I waited for the boiling hot water to cool down to a comfortable temperature before taking a bath. It was a complicated process to get into the bath, but once I actually got in, it was still very comfortable.

The hot water warmed my body, and my limbs felt like they were melting away.

"And the fact that it's outside is nice...," I muttered again.

It was built on top of the hill that originally had been guarded by the golem, so the view was nice. A bath where you could soak while overlooking the green horizon of Great Sea of Trees.

"It feels good...!" I muttered.

"I'm glad you liked it," someone responded.

"Eeeek?" I screamed in surprise.

Before I knew it, there was another person bathing in the bathtub besides me!?

"C-COLÈNE?!" I exclaimed.

"I thought you might be lonely to take a bath by yourself, so I came here. It is an automaton's duty to stay by your side and never leave your side," Colène said.

Colène was immersed in the hot water up to her shoulders. Her shoulders, which were partially floating above the water, were flushed a slight pink due to the warmth, making her look very sexy.

"Ms. Colène, where's your clothes?!" I asked in panic.

"Of course I took them off. Bathing with clothes on is against common sense," Colène replied.

Only at times like these can you use common sense!

"I mean, did you take it off? Can automatons take off their clothes?" I asked her again.

"I'm an automaton that can handle any situation. From combat to normal care, I've been designed to be able to carry out any and all duties," Colène explained.

That is... What does that have to do with taking off your clothes and being naked?

"Female automatons are primarily equipped with functions to satisfy the pleasure needs of men. For this reason, they are modeled after adult human females in every detail," Colène added her explanation.

"What...?!" I exclaimed.

"If you have any doubts, do you want to check?" Colène asked.

She said as she stood up and tried to expose her body from the neck down, which had been hidden under the water.

"Whaaaaaaaaat?!" I shouted and quickly grabbed Colène's shoulders and pushed her back into the hot water.

"It's okay! I trust what you say! You're the ultimate automaton, loyal to your master, so there's no way I'd ever doubt your words!" I said to her in panic.

"Master……!" Colène muttered.

After hearing that in a rapid-fire manner, Colène's eyes welled up with tears of emotion...

"Master, I am a very happy automaton that you have trusted me that much. After two thousand years, I can't believe I've been able to meet such a kind-hearted master," Colène said while impressed.

"Uh, yeah...!?" I replied hesitantly. If she was that impressed, it made me feel a bit nervous too.

"Umm, Master...," Colène called me.

"Huh?" I responded.

"My service function is always available for your benefit, Master," Colène said.

"Huh……!"

Can my sanity withstand this spirit of unpaid servitude? Impossible.

Meanwhile...

"As I thought, the giant have disappeared from that hill."

"Now is the time to take it! That excellent land deserves to be under our control!"

"However, from our reconnaissance, it seems that someone has already invaded that hill. They may have built a house and are watching to see if they can settle in...!?"

"So what!? If there are indigenous people, we can just drive them out! The weak will be taken, that's the law of this Great Sea of Trees!"
