Chapter 0

Prologue — Expelled from the Academy

Translator's Note

This was suggested by Otaku Hikikomori. It seems interesting so I think I'll pick this up. Because this is pure fantasy (except for the cross-world items), instead of Japanese title (-san, -sama, etc.), I think I'll try to use standard English title (Mr/Mrs., Lord/Lady, etc.). For the nickname, I'll use "Bond" or "Utopia" (or maybe "Kizuna" (from the original title, means "Bond")).

The raw of this series is completed with a total of 75 chapters (including prologue and epilogue).

This is a test run, next chapter (Chapter 1) will be available by next month (March). The English translation of Character names and terms are not fixed yet and may change later. I also still don't understand why it's "Bond Summoning" and what "Bond" is in this context.

The Royal Knight Academy.

One day, while I was enrolled there, I was called in by my homeroom teacher.

"Idhir Zirahar. You are being expelled." (Teacher)

"..." (Idhir)

As I remained silent without showing any particular reaction, the teacher sighed deeply and said, "Oh dear." He probably thought I was a bit stupid.

"Do I need to explain it in simpler terms so you can understand? You're not saying that it's a surprise to you, are you? Your grades, your attitude in class, your attendance — none of these things are worthy of a proud knight academy." (Teacher)

"An unmotivated loser?" (Idhir)

"You know that, don't you?" (Teacher)

Well, as the teacher in front of me said, it had actually been a week since I last came to the academy. I didn't remember taking tests or practicals seriously, so my grades were probably rock bottom.

"Our Royal Knight Academy is a school that nurtures knights who will contribute to the country. Those who graduate from our academy become official knights and join the Royal Guard or the Royal Capital Knights, which are directly under the royal family. They are the true elite. So much so that it is impossible to become a knight without studying at our academy!" (Teacher)

"I don't think it's that bad, right? There are a lot of people in the local knight orders who aren't from here, you know?" (Idhir)

"Don't lump me in with those country bumpkins!" (Teacher)

When I tried to nitpick he got mad.

"Anyway, you are a disgrace to this glorious knight academy! You're stupid, lazy, and unmotivated! But you're good at talking! We can't let such an underachiever tarnish the bottom tier of our academy any longer! ...Therefore, after a strict examination, and with the approval of the principal, it has been decided that you will be expelled!" (Teacher)

"What" (Idhir)

"It feels so good to finally get rid of you. After all, you have neither motivation nor ability, but you excel in the unnecessary areas, so it was hard to cut you off, you know? Is it something that has nothing to do with you?" (Teacher)

My homeroom teacher looked at me with a somewhat triumphant look on his face. It was a look of obvious mockery.

"You were born into the Zirahar family, a renowned family of knights, so you had great backing. Your brothers were all top students who graduated from our academy. They were all proud of you. So as not to tarnish their achievements, everyone treated you like a hot potato." (Teacher)

"..." (Idhir)

"How pathetic. Born into a distinguished family, yet incompetent enough to even fulfill your role. I'm going to show you the final straw. I hope you're grateful." (Teacher)

What this teacher said was not wrong. It was true that my family was a prestigious knight family that had produced many famous knights for generations, and in fact, there was no doubt that all of my brothers were talented and powerful knights.

My two older brothers above me had both graduated from the knight academy and were active as regular knights. It seemed that they were rapidly climbing the corporate ladder with their outstanding work.

Among all those talented brothers, I was the only one who was a failure.

"Idhir Zirahar, if you had only a little guts, you could have grown into a strong knight, following in the footsteps of your excellent brothers. Our knight academy also spares no effort in supporting those who aspire to improve. The purpose of our academy is to help talented young people grow." (Teacher)

"..." (Idhir)

"However, the reason you were expelled and were unable to grow was because you had neither the talent nor the will to improve to become stronger. It was not because there was something wrong with the instruction at our academy. Don't get that wrong!" (Teacher)

"After you've insulted me so much, are you trying to avoid responsibility by taking precautions? You can see right away that you're trying to protect yourself, right?" (Idhir)

"Ahhh?!" (Teacher)

The knight academy teacher glaring at me with a fiendish expression was what they called a demonic instructor, notorious for wantonly disciplining his students. Anyway, is this sloppy teaching, which seems to suggest that hitting and yelling at people will make them grow? Is this an appropriate way to train knights, who are supposed to be a combat class?

Having been told to expel in this way, I had no right or wrong to say anything about it.

"There's no need to worry. I know exactly what I'm doing. It's true that I didn't have even a shred of will to improve. There's no way someone like me could become an official knight. Especially if there are others around me who are working hard with proper goals in mind." (Idhir)

"O-okay...?" (Teacher)

"Honestly, I should have left here sooner. I should be grateful to my teacher for giving me the final push when I was half-heartedly whining about. Now I can leave here without any worries." (Idhir)

Perhaps taken aback by my noble conduct, the knight academy teacher looked put off for a moment, but then he gradually became more and more proud...

"...Haha, it seems you have a bit of shame in your heart! Yes, our academy, which trains proud knights, has no need for someone with no will to improve! Not a dropout like you! Huahahahahahaha!" (Teacher)

Yes, I have no intention of improving. As a knight.

"Thank you for all your help so far." (Idhir)

"Yes, that's right! I took good care of you, but you didn't live up to the teachers' expectations, what an ungrateful fool who never grew up! Get lost wherever you go! I won't allow you to tell anyone that you were enrolled in our academy, even if you were only halfway through!" (Teacher)

Don't worry, I wouldn't spread such embarrassing things around.

Thus, I was expelled from the knight academy.

Translation Note

For the protagonist name (イディール), I still haven't fully decided yet. Some references suggested "Idyll" but I think "Idhir" is more familiar in my ear and sounds better with "Zirahar"
