Chapter 211

First-Ranked Saint Selection Committee First Round 5

Published: 25 April 2025

"Anna, Melody, and Katie, I have something to tell you! I've found the answer to which patients we should treat! The answer is, 'We should treat the most seriously ill patients!'" (Fia)

After parting ways with Maurice, I found the three of them discussing something in the corner of the hallway, so I seized the opportunity to run over and present my idea to them. With the help of these three people, I decided to cure Maurice. But unfortunately, things didn't go as planned. The three of them looked at me in amazement and sighed.

"If you say so Fia, then that's a card you should never pick!"

"Because you are young, you probably think that healing the most severely ill patients is the most glamorous path, but you should not be overconfident in your abilities. A Saint is not omnipotent, and old wounds cannot be healed."

"Actually, this is good timing. We've just agreed that this is the perfect time to heal those with only minor injuries and earn some points."

Oh my goodness, I was completely defeated by their logic. I hung my head, thinking that maybe I should have been a bit more creative in how I asked for advice, but I told myself that it was okay and that there was still time. The first round of auditions took place over five days, so we should only need their cooperation for one of those days.

Actually, there are many other saints like Priscilla and Rose out there, so maybe they can heal him. If so, I'd love to see their magic.

Though my thoughts were all mixed up, I nodded vigorously, deciding to follow what the three had said. So, I said to them, "You're right! Today we'll focus on treating those with minor injuries." First, we should go back to basics and learn various things from each other while watching the three of them demonstrate their healing magic. I agreed with the three with a smile, and Anna and the other two nodded with satisfaction.

"Fia, don't be hasty! We were also divided on this at first. I was the one who suggested treating the moderately injured patients, but the other two persuaded me. Rather than leaving it half-baked and unable to cure them completely, we decided to treat the mildly injured first and see how it went."

"Since I have the doctor's records this time, I think I can heal them with less magical power than usual, but I think it would be better to test it out first to see how much we can do."

"I think the best thing would be to completely cure as many patients as possible."

I was impressed that all three of them were solid saints with strong opinions, so I walked with them to the ward for the mildly injured. When I opened the door and entered the room, the two Saints were already there, checking on the patient.

"Those two are saints from the local church," Anna whispered as she pointed at the two Saints.

The patients they were treating were one who couldn't stop coughing and another who had a hoarse voice. After watching for a while, the saints checked over the patient, then held up their hands and began chanting a spell.

"Merciful light of the heavens, transform my magical power into healing power —— ‹Heal›."

"Merciful light of the heavens, transform my magical power into healing power —— ‹Heal›."

The spell recited by the two holy maidens was exactly the same and it was the same spell that Charlotte had cast the other day. Apparently, the church taught a unified set of spells.

As I watched with interest, recovery magic was emitted from the Saint's hand and enveloped the patient. In the medical records prepared by the doctor, the symptoms of these two patients were noted as "uncontrollable cough" and "hoarseness", so it seemed the doctor was concentrating on healing those areas, casting magic around the patients' necks. However, it didn't seem to work. In the end, the magic had spread all over the patient's body.

It would be fine if there were other areas that needed healing besides the ones listed on the chart, but if not, it would just be a waste of magic power. With that thought in mind, I watched over the two of them casting their magic.

...10 seconds, 20 seconds, 30 seconds, 35 seconds.

The patient with the hoarse voice seemed to have finished treatment, and the Saint lowered her hand.

...40 seconds, 50 seconds, 52 seconds.

It seemed that treatment for the patient with a persistent cough had been completed.

The saints were drenched in sweat, their whole bodies showing just how much magical power they had exerted. There was so much I wanted to say, but I held back and narrowed it down to just one thing. "You both did a great job with your healing magic. However, I wonder if the patient with the hoarse voice still has some residual disease in his chest?" I commented.

I wondered if they wanted to postpone the treatment until the next day, but it seemed like the Saint who was treating the patient still had about a third of her magical power remaining. If that's the case, I was wondering if it would be better to treat it all at once.

Although I had intended to speak as calmly as possible, it seemed to the Saint who was being pointed out as it seemed he had been overreach, and she raised an irritated voice, "Stop making false accusations! I have given him perfect treatment!"

Her expression was very unpleasant, and she seemed to truly believe what she was saying, so she apparently didn't realize that the patient wasn't completely cured. Wanting the patient to understand, I explained it again carefully.

"As for that patient, it seems there is an error in the doctor’s chart. There is no doubt that the patient’s voice is hoarse, but the underlying cause is not just in the throat but also in the chest. Therefore, unless the chest is treated at the same time, I don’t think it can be said that the patient is fully cured." (Fia)

In terms of the difficulty of recovery, this patient was above the level of those with mild symptoms. Therefore, perhaps the saint in charge had focused only on the throat, assuming that, "If the patient only had mild symptoms, that would be the extent of it."

But as things stood, patients would continue to suffer. I said it out of my desire to make a complete recovery for the sick, but perhaps I said it poorly, as the saints in charge dismissed me with an angry look on their face, "If you say that, why don't you try and cure it yourself?"

"Huh, me?" I never thought I would be entrusted with this task, so my eyes widened in shock.
