Chapter 154

Visiting Duke's Residence 5

Published: 29 March 2024

"Ah, excuse me." (Desmond)

Captain Desmond panicked and grabbed the dropped cup, but it seemed like he was in too much of a hurry and the broken cup dug into his palm.

Unexpectedly, Captain seemed to be clumsy.

As a result, blood immediately began to drip from his palm.

Captain Desmond quickly pulled a handkerchief out of his pocket and wrapped it casually around the wound.

"Eh, how about you don’t have to wrap a handkerchief around such a mess and let the Saint heal you?" (Fia)

Captain Desmond seemed to have forgotten, but there were two saints in this room.

To be exact, there were three of us, but if the injuries were this bad, I wouldn't need to secretly use my powers...I thought to myself as I looked at Priscilla and Charlotte alternately with the face of a knight.

Then, Charlotte timidly looked at Priscilla.

...Ah, that's right. I can't take the role of Priscilla, the saint of this house.

Moreover, Charlotte still seemed to lack confidence when faced with other saints.

It was because, ever since Charlotte was taken to church at the age of three, she had lived surrounded by adult saints.

Since the adult saints had more experience than Charlotte, they seemed to be better at using recovery magic, and she didn't seem to appreciate her magic much.

It must be difficult for Charlotte to show off her magic in front of the saint she just met.

In that case, I thought the best thing to do would be to ask Priscilla, so I looked at her, but she pretended not to know and continued drinking her tea.

So, Priscilla doesn't want to use magic either? As I tilted his head, Duke Alcott read my question and opened his mouth.

"Fia, this is something that most people don't know, but there's actually a tacit agreement among the saints. It's stipulated that they shouldn't use recovery magic too much outside of their designated duties. If they use too much magic, it will take many days for their magical power to recover, so it would be a problem if they couldn't use it in an emergency."

"I see" (Fia)

In my case, even if my magic power exhausted, it would return to normal within a day, but I had to eat a lot to compensate for that.

So that's it, the type of saint who couldn't eat a lot at once might take some time to recover her magic power.

"However, considering the person's total amount of magical power, it is possible to use magic that does not affect the next day, so there is a loophole after all. For saints who haven't had any work for a few days, they can use it as much as they like."

"I see" (Fia)

Come to think of it, Charlotte was practicing magic with me without any restrictions on her magic power.

In other words, it's up to you.

When Duke Olcott was satisfied with that, he turned to look at Priscilla.

"Priscilla, I know you're the type who wants to conserve your magic, but could you please lend me the power of a saint? Since Desmond is a guest of my Duke's family, wouldn't it be unsightly to send an injured person home from your house?"

However, Priscilla looked back at the duke with a look of disapproval.

"If I set a precedent like that, I'd have to heal every time a guest of the ducal family gets hurt. I don't think that's a wise idea." (Priscilla)

Priscilla then glanced at Captain Desmond.

"Besides, there's no way a knight would be trumpeting things like, 'This Priscilla couldn't heal my injury.'" (Priscilla)

Priscilla's words were a check, saying, "There is no way a knight would say something that would degrade a saint who may have power in the royal castle in the future."

Making such a statement meant that Priscilla was a highly capable saint with the potential to become the First-class Saint.

But if that's the case...

"If your abilities are high and you have no problem using recovery magic, don’t you want to heal the injured?" (Fia)

Priscilla raised one of her eyebrows when I said this in pure doubt.

"There are really ignorant people out there. The power of a saint is a miraculous power, so its use should be limited. They thought, 'I want to heal an injury, so I'm going to use healing magic.' It's the idea of a child acting as he please." (Priscilla)

Duke Alcott looked at me with an apologetic expression.

"Priscilla is a chosen saint who grew up in the cathedral. Therefore, her power has been touted as a 'miracle' and has never been used recklessly. She want to conserve my magic power."

So that's it. It seemed that Priscilla grew up in an environment where the free use of recovery magic was not looked upon.

If she had received such education from an early age, she probably had this way of thinking.

And Priscilla must have never truly experienced the joy of healing an injury.

If that's the case, then I could understand Priscilla's behavior, I thought. Captain Desmond moved his hand wrapped in a handkerchief.

"Don't worry about me. It's just a scratch, there's no need to rush to heal it." (Desmond)

"I'm sorry."

Duke Alcott replied, and just as the conversation was about to end, Charlotte took a few deep breaths and timidly opened her mouth.

"Um...if you don't mind me, would you like me to heal you?" (Charlotte)

When I saw her like that, I was surprised and opened my eyes.

Well, Charlotte proposed using recovery magic herself in front of the other saints!

That was definitely Charlotte's first step.

As Charlotte clasped her hands tightly and trembled, waiting for a reply, Captain Desmond quickly declined, saying, "No, that would be bad."

Therefore, I felt like "Oh my god!" and I wanted to approach her.

Or rather, it was crowded.

"Captain Desmond, please don't say unnecessary things! Because there are people who don't accept your favor like that, it's becoming increasingly difficult for the Saint to freely exercise her abilities! 'He's injured and it hurts, I want him to be healed quickly,' and she just want him to be healed." (Fia)

Then Captain Cyril suddenly smiled.

"That's right, Desmond. Everything becomes simpler in Fia's hands." (Cyril)

"Y-yeah..." (Desmond)

Captain Desmond said in a raised voice, taking off the handkerchief from his palm and holding out his hand passively.

Fresh blood was flowing from his palm, and it was definitely not a scratch like Captain had said.

Captain Desmond once lost hearing in one ear and had Charlotte healed him.

For that reason, it wasn't that he doubted her abilities, he was probably just holding back, but this wasn't the time to hold back.

The joy she got from healing people was what makes her a saint.

Charlotte nervously walked up to Captain Desmond and put her hands over his.

Then, she swallowed thickly and slowly recited the spell.

"Benevolent light of heaven, please transform my magical power into healing power—[Recovery]." (Charlotte)

Then, recovery magic was output from Charlotte's hand and wrapped around one of Captain Desmond's hands.

...5, 6, 7 seconds.

Over time, the scars on Captain Desmond's palms gradually became visibly lighter, until they disappeared completely.

Okay, okay, it's not bad for someone who was nervous to recite a spell in front of other saints.

Thinking of this, I looked at Charlotte and she let out a deep breath of relief.

Next to him, Captain Desmond picked up a wet towel and wipes away the blood to check for scars.

The scars on his palms, which appeared from under the towel, were completely gone.

Captain Desmond clasped and opened his hands several times with a serious look on his face, then shook his head in admiration.

Then I thanked Charlotte.

"It's amazing, the scars have completely disappeared and there are no problems with your movements. You are truly an excellent saint. Thank you." (Fia)

Then, Charlotte blushed happily.

"N-No, I'm glad I was able to help you." (Charlotte)

Duke Alcott, who had been watching from a distance, got up from the couch with interest and approached Captain Desmond.

"Desmond, can you show me where the wound was?"

Duke Alcott then looked closely at Captain Desmond's hand, and then looked at Charlotte with admiration.

"...I don't know exactly how bad the original scar was, but it's a big deal for it to disappear without a trace. I see, Saint Charlotte is capable."

"No, that's not it." (Charlotte)

I felt happy when I saw Charlotte holding her hands out in front of her and denying it as if it was outrageous.

...Yes, Charlotte is talented. She's definitely going to be a good saint.

To help Charlotte, I handed her the plate of tarts on the table.

I had only eaten one so far, so there were two more tarts left.

"Charlotte, you're hungry after using magic, right? I'll give you a special portion of my tart!" (Fia)

Even though I had made a very useful suggestion as a fellow saint...for some reason, Captain Desmond frowned.

"Fia, you don't seem to understand the value, but Saint Charlotte has shown amazing magic. Your half-eaten tart won't be worth the price!" (Desmond)

"Huh?" (Fia)

Well, Captain Desmond didn't understand the validity of my proposal!

Also, I took a good look.

I hadn't touched either of the tarts left on the plate yet.

It's a complete excuse to say it's half-eaten.

I wanted to say that out loud, but it seemed that there were other people besides Captain Desmond who also wanted to speak. Captain Cyril, Fabian, and Duke Alcott all spoke one after the other.

"Fia, not everyone has the same appetite as you. Your desire to help your friend is noble, but you should stop thinking about food."

"Saint Charlotte was an excellent saint. It's amazing how Fia calls such a saint by her name and befriends her. I wonder why all of Fia's acquaintances are such important people."

"As Fabian said, all of Fia's acquaintances are not ordinary people. Hehe, I would like to become an important person if possible, so the quickest way to get there is to have Fia become a friend."

Well, everyone just said whatever they like.

And no one understood how much I cared about Charlotte!

I let out a sigh of resignation.

...I want to believe that someday, my true intentions will be conveyed to them.
